Abbie and Yngve's Summer Wedding at Samlesbury Hall

Abbie and Yngve. 1st June 2023

by Samlesbury Hall

We met at university - we both went to the University of Leeds. We met through a friend (one of the bridesmaids at our wedding) on her birthday night out. Four years later (31st May 2021), Yngve took me to a beach north of Whitby that we visited often and proposed to me away from a big crowd. Yngve was very nervous in the run up to it so I was a little suspicious. We went to York afterwards and celebrated with a nice meal and drinks at Greys Court Hotel! We've since moved to Berkshire for our jobs but wanted to get married either in Yorkshire or Lancashire as it was close to where we met and some of our family.

We found Samlesbury whilst browsing for wedding venues in Lancashire. We loved the Hall's aesthetic and thought it would be good to view it. It was beautiful - we liked the on-site accommodation, the fact we got exclusive venue hire and the hall itself. We fell in love pretty quickly and booked the venue almost immediately.

We would highly recommend doing the food tasting before your wedding - we went with our family. We had the soup for starters, a choice between the chicken and the beef for main (our vegetarian guests had risotto) and a lemon cheesecake for dessert. Both the beef and chicken were delicious. I would also recommend considering the sticky toffee pudding for dessert as again, this was very nice - we chose not to have it as I was worried about spilling toffee sauce on my dress. For our evening food we had the roast hog - everyone loved it! And we got to see the hog on the spit earlier in the day which was a fun added touch.

It's difficult to pick the best moment of the day - we loved all of it. If we did have to choose, we think it would either be seeing how happy everyone was and how are friends and family were getting along with each other or our first dance. Our first dance was Pointless by Lewis Capaldi. We did a choreographed dance for this - Callum created an amazing dance routine for us that surprised our guests, even making some of them cry. We were nervous in the run up to it but found that we got lost in the moment, not even aware of all our guests around us. We would definitely recommend doing a dance & if it is choreographed, keeping it secret from the guests until the day.
