Carbon Footprint

Here at Samlesbury Hall we are committed to meeting our environmental objectives through a continuous improvement programme and by raising awareness of our internal personnel and the visiting public.

It is the responsibility of the Hall Director to promote the principles of the policy and manage the internal procedures to reflect those principles.

A symbol of this commitment is our membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme. By encouraging sustainable practices the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations. The Hall is very proud to be once again awarded Silver for green Tourism.

In support of our principles we will comply with and where feasible exceed the minimum requirements of all applicable environmental legislation:

  • Train our employees on environmental issues and the environmental effects of their activities
  • Monitor our progress on a regular basis and adopt a programme for continuous improvement.

To further reduce the negative impact our activities have on the environment we aim to:

  • Implement a procedure for accurately monitoring all energy used on site with a view to setting targets for reduction
  • Minimise waste sent to landfill by elimination, re-use or recycling
  • Supplement our heating with wood harvested in a sustainable manner from our grounds
  • Encourage visitors to use public transport by providing travel information on out literature.

To enhance the local environment we are:

  • Growing a wide range of and fruits in our kitchen garden and herbs in the courtyard
  • Sourcing local specialist food and drink for our Restaurant café
  • Sourcing and promoting gifts and crafts from local artists, together with workshops and working exhibitions.

This policy is endorsed by the Hall Director and reviewed on a regular basis.
